Craig Doyle: From TV Stardom to Family Life and a New Challenge

Craig Doyle has been a familiar face on British and Irish television for decades. The Irish presenter first won over audiences in the mid-1990s as a host on Disney Club and has since built a thriving career in broadcasting. Recently, he became a household name once again when he stepped in as one of the rotating presenters on This Morning following a major shake-up of the show’s hosting lineup.

The changes at This Morning came after longtime hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby stepped down from their roles, prompting ITV to introduce a fresh set of presenters. While Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard took on the main hosting duties for most of the week, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary became the regular faces on Fridays. Craig Doyle, along with Josie Gibson, was brought in as a relief host, covering holiday periods and other absences. His natural charisma and warm on-screen presence quickly made him a favourite among viewers.

Now, however, Craig is stepping into the spotlight on his own, taking on a brand-new challenge. The Irish broadcaster has joined the lineup for this year’s Celebrity MasterChef, where he will put his culinary skills to the test in the famous BBC kitchen. With this new venture, fans have become increasingly curious about his life away from the cameras.

A Life Away from the Spotlight

Away from the fast-paced world of television, Craig Doyle leads a much quieter life with his wife, Doon, and their children. Unlike her well-known husband, Doon prefers to stay out of the public eye. Originally from Ireland, she was born in Glencree, County Wicklow, in November 1972. She initially pursued a career in interior design before choosing to focus on raising their family.

Craig has never been shy about expressing how deeply he fell for Doon from the moment they met. In a candid interview with RTE, he recalled their first encounter, which happened while she was working part-time at a gym before starting college.

“I was back in Ireland just before I started on Tomorrow’s World, and a mate of mine told me, ‘Doyler, you have to meet this girl! I tried everything with her, but it’s not happening,’” he shared. “She was working at the gym, and I didn’t even have proper gym gear with me. I showed up in shorts and shoes—I must have looked ridiculous. But when I met her, I just thought, ‘Wow!’”

The pair quickly hit it off, but Craig admitted to making an awkward blunder during their early dating days. He recalled one particularly memorable moment when nerves got the better of him.

“We were on our third date—the so-called ‘kissing date,’” he explained. “We were in Greystones, had a drink, and went for a walk. When it was time to leave, I panicked and shook her hand instead of kissing her. She just looked at me and said, ‘That was the kissing date. Why didn’t you kiss me?’ I was terrified. I really liked her.”

Despite this slightly clumsy start, their romance flourished, and they went on to build a strong and lasting relationship. Two years ago, they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary, marking two decades of marriage built on love, laughter, and mutual support.

While Craig Doyle continues to enjoy a dynamic career in television, from hosting This Morning to stepping into the culinary world on Celebrity MasterChef, his greatest joy remains his family life with Doon and their children—far from the bright lights of the TV studios.
